With nearly 170 years of history and more than our share of characters along the way, Creemore is sure to have some stories to tell. Here's a small sampling of interesting facts and tales about our Village. Of course, for the complete experience, you'll have to visit. You wouldn't expect us to give up all our secrets and treasures to strangers, would you?
This is the Official web site for Creemore, Ontario, Canada. It's owned and operated by the Creemore Business Improvement Area, a group of approximately 50 independent businesses and professional services on Mill Street, Creemore's main street. The Creemore BIA has been working together to make Creemore a wonderful place to visit for more than 20 years. Lots of things can change over time, but one thing that doesn’t is our enthusiasm and energy for making Creemore’s main street a gem. We're proud to continue the small town tradition of personal and friendly service.
The settlement of Creemore was founded in 1842, and by the turn of the century it was a thriving village of about 800 people with its own vibrant business community. Since then, Creemore has grown to a population of 1300 or so, which tells you two things about our town: We like to take things a little more slowly here, and we think that quality always matters more than quantity.
Visitors to Creemore today will find us in Clearview Township, County of Simcoe. Clearview Township was created in 1993 with the amalgamation of the Village of Creemore, Town of Stayner, Sunnidale and Nottawasaga Townships. But to us, Creemore is right where it's always been: nestled on the eastern boundary of the Niagara Escarpment in the valley of the Mad and Noisy Rivers. We're about 130 km north of Toronto, 40 minutes west of Barrie and 20 minutes south of Collingwood and Georgian Bay, and our geo-location is at Latitude N44°19”30” and Longitude W80°6’20”
Unfortunately, we can't promise you'll be the first to discover Creemore, but you'll be just as welcome as everyone is who has fallen under its spell. Here's what some of your fellow travelers have had to say about our town:
"The tiny town of Creemore, just outside Toronto is worlds apart from the big city. Hidden just out of sight, sitting on the edge of the Niagara Escarpment, Creemore is the small-town ideal to which so many cookie-cutter communities aspire." EnRoute Magazine – October 2008
"Creemore, one of the ten prettiest towns in Canada." selected by Harrowsmith Country Life Magazine "My Kind of Town: Fourth Annual Salute: Creemore, Tom Cruickshank, April, 2001"
"Picture a beautiful, historic small Ontario town in your mind." "Creemore is actually it. It strikes a wonderful balance between charm and sophistication." Canadian Home & Country – Winter 2006
"More than just beer. The village of Creemore is almost too charming." "Creativity is in the air in Creemore." "Its nerve calming, soul soothing." Beyond the City magazine – September/October 2006
"Occasionally you find a community that is so old-fashioned – in a very nice way – you are afraid to close your eyes for fear it is a mirage." Pat Mestern - December 2003
"You'll like it here. This is sweet land." Canadian Home and Country - December 2003
"At first Creemore Ontario doesn't look any different than just another Ontario farm town, its streets lined with prim Victorian houses and small mom-and-pop shops. But look again, particularly at what you don't see, and this little village on the edge of the Niagara Escarpment will quickly win you over." Harrowsmith Magazine
